October 23, 2024The ₱65.6 million Kabacan River Flood Control Project was formally turned over to the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) on October 17, 2024, at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), Kabacan, Cotabato.
Congresswoman Ma. Alana Samantha Santos, the 3rd District Representative, led the handover. In her remarks, Congresswoman Santos thanked the DPWH, local government units, and other partner agencies for their cooperation. Kabacan Mayor Evangeline Guzman lauded the initiative, saying it will significantly enhance the safety and livelihood of the town’s residents.
The flood control project, funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cotabato 3rd District Engineering Office, aims to mitigate the risks of flooding in Kabacan, a flood-prone area in the province of Cotabato. The project was praised for its strategic importance in protecting lives, agricultural lands, and infrastructure from flood damage.
Present in the ceremony were Board Members Jonathan Tabara, Ivy Dalumpines, Karmi de Guzman, former Kabacan Municipal Councilor Mr. Reyman Saldivar, and representatives from USM, including Dr. Eimer Estilloso, Dr. Samsudin Panday, Dr. Paul John Ongcoy, Dr. Geoffray Atok, local officials and key stakeholders, USM employees, and staff from DA-PCC.
The project is expected to provide long-term benefits to the agriculture sector and safeguard the local community from future flooding risks.
