DUGONG, M’LANG — The Department of Business Administration of the College of Business, Development Economics and Management (CBDEM) equipped local goat raisers in Brgy. Dugong, M’lang with essential entrepreneurial skills, branding strategies, and commercialization tools on October 16, 2026.

The training forms part of Components 1 and 3 of the “NeGOATsyo Project: Building Rural Livelihood through Marketing and Halal Goatpreneurship.”

Titled “Training-Workshop on Halal Goatpreneurship,” the training gathered 28 members of the M’lang Halal Agri-Fishery Council, Inc. (MHAFCI) and Dugong Kalilintad Multi-Purpose Association (DUKAMA), who participated in lecture sessions led by University of Southern Mindanao (USM) entrepreneurship experts.

CBDEM Dean Cheryl Y. Dulay and Prof. Lotis D. Cubin spearheaded the discussions, covering “Topic 1: Livelihood Training & Entrepreneurial Capacity Building” and “Topic 2: Marketing Strategies in Commercializing Halal Goat Meat Products,” respectively.

Held in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of M’lang and Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Dugong, the activity was also attended by Brgy. Chairman Noah D. Zabel, alongside Brgy. Councilors Roberto C. Gajelonia and Noraima S. Kisam, who extended their support in the facilitation of the proceedings. Meanwhile, the USM Department of Business Administration team facilitated the documentation of the training.

Eyeing to equip Halal goat farmers with entrepreneurial skills, develop standardized Halal-compliant processing techniques, design and implement effective marketing strategies, and assess the viability of Halal goat meat commercialization, the NeGOATsyo project seeks to strengthen the local goat industry and empower rural communities through Halal enterprise development. This ongoing effort underscores the university’s dedication to advancing inclusive economic growth and community-based goatpreneurship.
