In response to the growing challenges of misinformation, digital exploitation, and scams, the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) successfully launched the “Be MINDFUL: Media Information and Navigation for Digital Freedom, Understanding, and Literacy” symposium on November 8, 2025, at Brgy. Tibao, M’lang, Cotabato.

The symposium was designed to empower youth and parents with essential digital skills and cybersecurity awareness, enabling them to confidently navigate today’s complex online environment.

As part of this effort, participants were taught responsible digital engagement topics through practical discussions, featuring distinguished resource speakers: Prof. Rezeille May C. Amilbahar who discussed Raising Awareness and Preventing Online Scams, and Exploring Affiliate Marketing and Content Creation in Social Media; and Prof. Ronel Naringahon who discussed Combating Fake News and Misinformation. Through Be MINDFUL, CASS continues to uphold its vision of promoting moral integrity, digital literacy, and social responsibility.

This initiative demonstrates the College’s commitment to community engagement and institutional extension services, reinforcing CASS’s role as a proactive agent for social good and digital empowerment within communities.
