The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) officially opened the USM Retirees Bahay Ugnayan, the office of the USM Retirees Association, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and building blessing on January 29, 2026. The building, formerly the university post office, is located in front of the DXVL Radio Station.

Dr. Antonio Tacardon, President of the USM Retirees Association, welcomed guests and shared the story behind the new space. “This is the home of the USM Retiree Center. We were lucky that former President Francisco Garcia gave this building to us, and the current President, Dr. Jonald Pimentel, continued the support,” he said.

He also explained the purpose of the association, which was officially founded in 2010. “We hope this office will be useful for employees when they retire. Our retirement system helps members support each other during difficult times, like when someone passes away. This building is our humble office, and we are thankful to the two presidents for making this possible,” Tacardon added.
President Pimentel, was represented by Ms. Emily Tangonan Montero, Supervising Administrative Officer, who greeted the retirees and emphasized the importance of the space. “This is a home for our retirees where friendships continue, and memories are shared. We are happy to see you active and inspiring others to stay healthy and active,” she said.
The retirees also shared their motto: “It’s the life in our years. And for our physical activities, we walk and talk and we add movement to our years.” This reflects the retirees’ commitment to staying active while enjoying time together.
With the opening of the Bahay Ugnayan, USM retirees now have a place to gather, rest, and enjoy their time together. As Dr. Anita Tacardon, who also celebrated her birthday during the blessing said, “Mabuhay tayong lahat, mga retirees – may bahay na tayo!”
