University of Southern Mindanao recognized a total of 178 loyalty awardees and retirees who exemplified commitment and dedication in fulfilling their duties as government employees during the 120th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary held on September 25, 2020 at the USM Administration Skyroom.
With the theme: “Philippine Civil Service @ 120: Public Sector in the Age of Digital Transformation”, the virtual program organized by the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) honored 144 loyalty awardees and 34 retirees.
HRMDO Director Engr. WIllie Jones B. Sailing presented bronze service pins to 107 employees who rendered 10-15 years of continuous and satisfactory service in USM; silver service pins to 12 employees who completed 20-25 years of service; and gold service pins to 25 employees who served 30-35-40 years.
Leading the list of awardees are 5 faculty members who devoted 40 years of their continuous and dedicated service to USM, to wit: Dr. Purificacion Cahatian (College of Agriculture), Dr. Lopito Eguia (College of Science and Mathematics), Prof. Gloria Dela Pena (College of Business Development Economics and Management), Prof. Romeo David Libatique (College of Science and Mathematics), and Prof. Farida Piang (College of Education).

September of each year is declared the Civil Service Month by the Presidential Proclamation No. 1050, series of 1997. This is in observance of the establishment of the Philippine Civil Service by virtue of Public Law No. 5 (An Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of an Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippine Islands) on 19 September 1900.
The program organized by HRMDO adhered to the national government’s directives on health protocols such as observing physical distancing and wearing of face masks.
