The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) hosted the presentation and initial implementation of a digital textile monitoring system on October 1, 2026, at the USM Science and Technology Building in Kabacan, Cotabato,

Engr. Alexander M. Argame, Jr., Senior Science Research Specialist of the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), presented his Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) capstone project, titled “Integrated Textile Supply Chain Monitoring and Standardization System for Philippine Tropical Fabrics.” The presentation marked the start of the system’s implementation at USM.

Following the preeentation, USM officials and DOST representatives facilitated the installation of the Monitoring, Traceability, and Authentication System (MTAS) at the Science and Technology Building.

The activity brought together personnel from USM and DOST, including Dr. Lydia C. Pascual, R&D Office Director; Dr. Jalaloden B. Marohom, head of the Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Business Development Office; and Karizza Almonia, representing the DOST Region XII–Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) North Cotabato. DOST-PTRI personnel also joined the activity.

The capstone project supports the implementation of Republic Act No. 9242, through a digital platform that monitors, traces, and authenticates textile materials and products throughout the supply chain in Region XII.

The system is expected to give textile stakeholders access to supply-chain information, improve traceability of materials and products, and help monitor compliance with the law.
