The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) recognized faculty members and staff for their outstanding research publications and intellectual property outputs during the PRAISE Special Awards for Research, Development, and Extension on September 21, 2026, at the University Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
A total of 56 faculty members and staff received the Intellectual Property Awards for their copyrighted works and utility models, while 116 authors were recognized through the Publication Awards for their Scopus-indexed publications.
Dr. Jalaloden B. Marohom, Head of the Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Business Development Office, presented the Intellectual Property Awards to awardees from the USM Main Campus, USM PALMA, and USM- Kidapawan City Campus (KCC).
Meanwhile, Dr. Jan Cylden B. Tenorio, Head of the Publication and Printing Unit, presented the Publication Awards, recognizing 116 authors behind 110 Scopus-indexed publications.
In her opening message, Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, said the awards recognize the time and effort faculty members and staff put into producing research and intellectual property outputs.
“We know that much of this work was done at your own time, most likely at home, early in the morning or late at night. And yet, we still set aside time and commitment to do research and develop ideas and bring them to fruition. These outputs matter,” Dr. Verzosa noted.
She cited USM’s recent recognition in the WURI 2026 Global Top 500 Innovative Universities, where the university ranked 488th, as a testament to its ongoing contribution to innovation and research. She also highlighted USM’s standing among the leading higher education institution in Region XII in the Webometrics ranking. She also pointed to USM’s Silver Cluster Award and Broad Citation from the Innovation and Technology Support Office as evidence of the University’s continuing efforts in research and innovation.
Moreover, University President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel said the awards recognize individuals and teams whose research and ideas lead to innovations and solutions for communities.
“Today, we recognize individuals and teams whose dedication goes beyond fulfilling an academic or institutional responsibility. We honor those who transform ideas into innovations, knowledge into solutions, and research into meaningful change in the lives of our people and communities,” Dr. Pimentel underscored.
The PRAISE Special Awards for Research, Development, and Extension form part of USM’s Gawad Uliran sa Serbisyong Mahusay or Gawad USM, the university’s awards and incentives program that honors officials, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel for outstanding accomplishments, innovative ideas, discoveries, and exemplary service.
