Dr. Jelly Grace B. Nonesa, the Philippines’ first astrophysicist and a faculty member of the Physics Department of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), conducted a workshop on Astrophysics and Astrochemistry Studies on August 19 to 20, 2026 at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).
The workshop brought together researchers, faculty members, and students for discussions on current developments in astrophysics, research collaboration, and approaches in astronomy and related fields. Participants included undergraduate and graduate students from the BS Chemistry, BS and MS Physics, and MS Biology programs.
USM organized the workshop in collaboration with the Theoretical Physics Research Group, Mindanao Astronomical Group, and the Physics and Chemistry Departments of MSU-IIT.
