Maramag, BUKIDNON— University of Southern Mindanao’s (USM) Extension Unit Head, Dr. Florence Roy P. Salvaña, served as a resource speaker during the “Gawang Pinoy, Tatak Biotek: 2026 Regional Livestock Biotechnology Symposium and Technology Exhibit” held at the Central Mindanao University (CMU) Convention Center on August 19, 2026.
With the theme “Pagsulong sa Masaganang Industriya ng Paghahayupan,” the activity brought together stakeholders, researchers, educators, and livestock practitioners to promote biotechnology-based innovations and technologies for sustainable livestock production.
Dr. Salvaña served as the Resource Person for Plenary Session 2: Feed Technology and Ingredients Valorization, where he presented his topic titled “Forage and Phyto-Veterinary Resources of Mindanao: A Botanical Foundation for Halal Small Ruminant Biotechnology in Region XII and BARMM”. His presentation highlighted the rich botanical resources found across Mindanao and their potential applications in livestock production.
The session emphasized the importance of exploring locally available forage and phyto-veterinary resources as sustainable and valuable ingredients to improve animal nutrition and health.
“By recognizing and maximizing indigenous plant resources, livestock producers and researchers can contribute to more resilient, resource-efficient, and sustainable production systems,” Dr. Salvaña concluded.
USM’s participation in the regional symposium through its expert reflects the vital role of research and extension efforts in translating scientific knowledge into practical technologies and innovations that can sustainably empower livestock communities.
