The SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC) collaborated with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) / Japan-The People of Japan, Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), EcoSecurities, Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), University of the Philippines Los Baños Foundation, Inc. (UPLBFI), Local Government Unit of Midsayap, and DOST-PCAARRD for the KONEKaalaman: Climate Smart Agriculture Knowledge Sharing Event on August 5, 2026, at The Vineyard, Quezon Avenue, Poblacion 4, Midsayap, Cotabato.
Around a hundred farmers and students gathered for a meaningful discussion on initiatives, innovations, and programs on Climate-Smart approaches in the AANR sector. Dr. Edwin T. Balaki, RRDCC Chairperson and President of Southern Christian College, welcomed the participants to the event. Hon. Rolando C. Sacdalan, Municipal Mayor of Midsayap, represented by Dr. Charlimage F. Fugata, Municipal Agriculturist, delivered a welcome message, expressing their warm reception to the audience in Masayang Midsayap.
Dr. Lily Ann D. Lando, Communications Expert from UPLBFI, gave the rationale of the activity, highlighting the importance of disseminating information, especially among the farmers and fisherfolk. Dr. Julius Jerome G. Ele, Consortium Director of SOXAARRDEC, introduced the resource speakers invited to impart knowledge to the farmer-participants.
Mr. Ruel Villanueva, Administrative Officer V from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist-Cotabato Province, shared the Climate-Smart and Resilient Agriculture best practices, programs, and initiatives of the Provincial Government of Cotabato.
Dr. Julius Jerome G. Ele, SOXAARRDEC Director and Professor VI of USM, discussed the Feeds and Feeding Systems. Non-conventional feed sources for livestock and poultry were also discussed and introduced to the participants. An innovation was also introduced, specifically the Feed Prime Application.
Engr. Teofilo Jumawan, Jr., Planning Officer II of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Training Center XII, discussed the initiatives of DA-ATI RTC XII, including capability-building activities, trainings, IEC materials, partnerships and linking, and other programs and initiatives on climate-smart agriculture.
Dr. Charlimagne Fugata, Municipal Agriculturist of LGU-Midsayap, provided a talk on the Municipal Masterplan for Climate Change Mitigation of LGU-Midsayap.
Prof. Joseph C. Lorilla, Faculty of the University of Southern Mindanao and Project Staff of IRISDD, presented their climate-smart innovation, Intelligent Rubber Insect and Pest and Disease Diagnostic.
After the discussions, certificates were awarded to the resource persons and to the participants. Later, the participants also shared their feedback and takeaways from the event.
Dr. Mark Al-Jamie J. Muttulani, Deputy Consortium Director of SOXAARRDEC, delivered a closing message, expressing his thanks to the collaborators and farmers for making this event a success.
