Student developers from the Philippine Society of Information Technology Students (PSITS) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) won the first place in the StellarX PH Demo Day Mindanao on July 4, 2026, in Davao City.
Representing USM were Rachel Joy P. Pacot and Anjuvh Baldwin Yguinto, both third year students from BS in Computer Science who emerged as the top team after presenting Orbi Wallet, a blockchain-based digital wallet designed to make cryptocurrency transactions more accessible and secure.
Built on the Stellar network, Orbi Wallet removes the need for traditional 24-word seed phrases by allowing users to access and authorize transactions through biometric authentication, such as Face ID or fingerprint recognition. The application aims to provide a simpler and more user-friendly experience while maintaining security in managing digital assets.
The competition gathered student developers from several universities across Davao, including the University of the Philippines – Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University, and Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, among others. Participants first attended learning sessions on blockchain technology, decentralized finance (DeFi), and building applications on the Stellar network before presenting their projects through a pitching competition.
Mr. Ruben P. Lacumba Jr. and Mr. Erich Jann Liwag, served as the team’s coach and Business/Growth and Technical Consultants, respectively.
Securing the award paves the way for the student developers to pursue the Stellar Grant Application, granting them access to mentorship, project growth, and ongoing support from the Stellar community.
