The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) reaffirmed its commitment to fostering regional partnerships and advancing sustainability education through its participation in the 2nd Quarter Meeting of the BIMP-EAGA Higher Education Institutions Consortium (PEHEIC), Inc. held on June 16, 2026, at Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU).
Representing USM was Prof. Bryan Lloyd P. Bretaña, Director of the Office for International Affairs (OIA) and External Vice President of PEHEIC. The meeting brought together member institutions and partner agencies to strengthen collaboration and discuss initiatives that promote environmental stewardship and sustainability education across the region.
In her welcome message, Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, President of ADSSU, expressed gratitude to the consortium for selecting the university as the host institution. She emphasized ADSSU’s support for the consortium’s goals and conveyed her team’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to the discussions and the implementation of agreements reached during the meeting.
Dr. Hanli A. Taha, President of PEHEIC, Inc. and a faculty member of Palawan State University, led the meeting and facilitated discussions on the consortium’s ongoing programs and future directions. The team discussed several matters, with emphasis on the upcoming conference in October 2026. They also explored potential collaborative activities with partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), particularly in the areas of research and academic mobility.
Through its active participation in PEHEIC, USM continues to strengthen partnerships with higher education institutions and stakeholders in promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation.
