June 19, 2026
Five years after opening its doors in 2021, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) College of Medicine celebrated its 2nd Graduation and Commencement Exercises, producing 37 new medical graduates today June 19, 2026 at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
Dr. Rommel T. Vargas, CEO of St. Peregrine Hospital in Kidapawan City graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. In his speech he underscored that the diploma they received is not only a piece of paper, it represents the fulfillment of their dreams to become doctor. He also acknowledged the parents and those who helped and encouraged the graduates to finish medical school.
“Dapat [tayong] maging proud sa ating mga sarili dahil tapos na ang ating paghihirap sa apat na taon sa medical school,” the Matalam, Cotabato Councilor emphasized.
“Soon, you will be doctors, do not be afraid to ask help from your colleagues. Magtulungan po tayo, buhay po ang nakasalalay. In life, marami pa tayong mararanasan that will make us humble,” he remarked.

Moreover, Ptr. William P. Galagnara served as the Baccalaureate Speaker. As a spiritual leader, he inspired the graduates through his message, reminding them that their decision to pursue medical education is a cross they have chosen to carry—one that comes with great responsibility, commitment, and countless sacrifices.

Moreover, Dr. Aika C. Baya, the batch valedictorian, delivered her words of thanks representing the doctor of medicine graduates. In her talk, Dr. Baya expressed appreciation to everyone who helped them finish the degree.
“Sometimes the most life changing moments in our lives don’t begin with grand achievements sometimes they start with uncertainty a leap of faith and small consistent steps taken every day,” Dr. Baya highlighted.
She also dedicated her thanks to her daughter. She said she endured everything because of her. “Four years I did my best as a medical student, but I was not always present for the important milestones in your life. I miss your first days at school, the time you were first admitted to the hospital, and met the other moments a mother wishes to witness first-hand those absences we heavily on me, but I carried on because I knew I was building a future for both of us,” she spoke.

The event gathered the USM Board of Regents, Administrative council members headed by Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, the USM President, Faculty members of the USM College of Medicine, parents and families of the graduates, and the stakeholders of the university.
The USM College of Medicine is headed by its college dean Dr. Louise Cecilia B. Balajadia.
