
Dr. Apple R. Ureta Named Director for Alumni Affairs, Leaves Message for USM Alumni

The University of Southern Mindanao welcomed Consul General Agus Trenggono, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao, and the Indonesian delegates on May 20, 2026, at the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) AVR, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
During the visit, both parties discussed possible partnerships, future academic collaborations, and scholarship opportunities between Indonesia and the Philippines.
In his message, the Consul General emphasized his appreciation for the engagement that provided the opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Indonesia and Philippines especially in education.
“Indonesia and the Philippines continue to enjoy strong economic and people-to-people ties especially in within the framework of BIMP-EAGA… education remains a foundation for advancing our cooperation and preparing the next generation of regional leaders,” he narrated.
Meanwhile, Ms. Umi Yanti Febriana Silalahi, Consul for Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs, shared insights on Indonesia’s soft power diplomacy in Mindanao and the role of public diplomacy in promoting regional and global peace.



Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, the USM President, expressed gratitude for the visit of the general. According to him, as USM and Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia already have prior engagements, the visit further strengthened the ties between the two institutions.
The visit aims to explore potential areas of collaboration, to wit. Indonesian Government scholarship programs, Academic partnerships and cultural exchange initiatives, and Indonesia’s economic diplomacy and other matters of mutual interest.
