
USM Evaluates Student Research Outputs During 11th In-House Review

The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) officially wrapped up the three-day Unilympics 2026 on May 20, 2026, at the University Auditorium, USM, in Kabacan, Cotabato.
Conducted for three days (May18-20, 2026), Unilympics gathered students from different colleges and USM extension campuses for several sports competitions.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Leorence C. Tandog, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, formally opened the event.
“Sports have the unique power to bring people together regardless of differences. Through every game, every cheer, and every challenge, we strengthen the bonds that unite us as one USM family,” the Vice President highlighted in her opening speech.
She then reminded the participants that victories are not the only measure of success in sports, but also the respect, discipline, perseverance, and friendships formed throughout the games.
Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, the USM President, graced the closing ceremony of Unilympics. He congratulated the students, faculty, and employees for the successful conduct of the event.
He acknowledged the hard work of everyone involved and shared that despite the challenges encountered during the preparations and competitions, the university carried out the event smoothly. He also expressed hope for USM to continue preparing its athletes for future competitions such as Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) Inc., and other sporting events.
Four units competed in different sports events to claim the overall championship title.
Unit IV- Bagani Warrios, composed of the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Health Sciences, College of Education, University Laboratory School, and USM Kidapawan City Campus, was declared as the Overall Champion.

Placing first runner-up was Unit II – Golden Panthers, represented by the College of Science and Mathematics, College of Arts and Social Sciences, and College of Human Kinetics.

Meanwhile, Unit I – Valiant Bakunawa, composed of the College of Agriculture, College of Trades and Industries, and College of Engineering and Information Technology, finished as second runner-up.

Landing in third runner-up was Unit III- Obsidian Pythons, composed of the Institute of Middle East and Asian Studies, College of Human Ecology and Food Sciences, College of Business, Development Management and Economics, and USM PALMA.

Guided by the theme: “One USM: Forging Unity, Inspiring Greatness Through Sports,” this year’s Unilympics gave students the chance to build friendships, support one another, and celebrate as one USM community.
