The University of Southern Mindanao (USM), through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in coordination with the Security Services Management Office, conducted an earthquake and fire drill on March 16, 2026 across its various offices and colleges.
Led by Dr. Vicente T. Delos Reyes, the activity aimed to strengthen the preparedness of students, faculty, and staff in responding to emergencies such as earthquakes and fire incidents. Participants actively practiced proper evacuation procedures, followed safety protocols, and demonstrated appropriate responses during simulated emergencies.
Prior to the drill, the organizing offices, in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Kabacan, conducted an orientation to equip participants with essential knowledge on disaster preparedness. The session covered fire safety measures, proper use of fire extinguishers, and step-by-step actions to take before, during, and after an emergency.
Students shared that the activity helped increase their awareness and readiness in handling unexpected situations. They also noted that drills like this promote discipline and encourage faster, more coordinated responses during emergencies.
Through this initiative, the University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness by continuously conducting activities that equip the campus community with life-saving skills.
