
USM Reviews Programs at Pigcawayan External Campus, Sets Health and Sciences as Main Offering

Dr. Leorence C. Tandog, the Vice President of Student Affairs (VPAA) of USM, and her team conducted an ocular visit at the USM Banisilan External Campus, and held a meeting with Hon. Arlene B. Alisasis, the Mayor of the Municipality Banisilan on January 30, 2026.
The visit aimed to determine the school’s flagship program. After careful deliberation, the team agreed that the Agriculture program would serve as the primary offering, while the BindTech program, with majors in Automotive, Electrical, and Drafting Technology, would continue to be offered.
During the meeting with the mayor and her team, the discussions focused on strategies for the development and improvement of USM Banisilan. Mayor Alisasis, together with the municipal council, reiterated their pledge to prioritize and support the growth of USM Banisilan in close collaboration with the College of Trades and Industries, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Joel V. Misanes.
Moreover, the USM team also toured the temporary USM Banisilan campus, currently housed at the Malinao Senior High School building. Mayor Alisasis assured that efforts are underway to construct a dedicated building at the proposed school site within the year.
Dr. Tandog expressed gratitude for the immediate support provided by the Banisilan local government that facilitated the establishment of USM Banisilan. The prompt provision of classrooms, chairs, computers, school supplies, and equipment reflects the LGU’s commitment and capability to sustain a university-managed institution.
Dr. Leonard Paleta, the Director for Instruction of USM, Engr. Renel M. Alucilja, the Planning and Development Director, Dr. Misanes, the Dean of CTI and his faculty member Dr. Uldarico E. Lavalle, joined Dr. Tandog in the activity.
USM Banisilan officially opened during the first semester of Academic Year 2025-2026. The activity is a manifestation of a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities in Banisilan and strengthening the university’s presence in Region XII .
