
USM CEIT Faculty Members Engage in Scholarly Writing Activity

A turnover ceremony for the Academic Support Building and the Student Center Building was held on January 15, 2026, at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), Kabacan, Cotabato
The Academic Support Building will be served as a venue for student services, general admin and support services, particularly services under Office of the President. It will also be used by the University President to cater the visiting guests, and other dignitaries. Meanwhile, the Student Center Building, located at the back of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), is intended for student programs, services, and activities.
During the program for the Student Center Building, Dr. Ma. Leida Donque, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, expressed her appreciation for the completion of the facility, noting that the project had long been part of the office’s plans. She said the building will provide students with a dedicated space for activities and services. Dr. Donque also acknowledged the efforts of the former OSA directors who contributed to the project.


Board Member Hon. Ivy Dalumpines-Ballitoc, representing 3rd District Cotabato Representative Cong. Ma. Alana Samantha Santos, expressed her hope that the Student Center Building would serve as a “home for hope” for both students and employees of the university.

Messages were also delivered during the turnover of the Academic Support Building. Mayor Cris Cadungon of Antipas, representing Cotabato Governor Emmylou “Lala” Talino Mendoza, spoke on the importance of having proper facilities to support the work of university officials. Mayor Evangeline Guzman of Kabacan also expressed her admiration for the university and cited the role of USM in the local community. “Kayo po ang backbone ng economy ng Kabacan,” she said.


USM President Dr. Jonald Pimentel shared that he is grateful to be the first to occupy the building. “We will take care of this, so that others, especially visitors and dignitaries, may be able to use this,” he said.

Also present during the turnover ceremony were members of the USM Board of Regents, University Vice Presidents, members of the Administrative Council, the University Infrastructure Project Monitoring and Evaluation Team (UIPMET) with Project Monitoring Office personnel, the Office of Student Affairs team, Engr. Romy E. Sibay of Pastcar Construction and Supply Co., faculty members, staff, and students.
