The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) reached a proud milestone as it received a Plaque of Recognition from the Philippine Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) on December 16, 2025 during the 2025 National Volunteer Month celebration held at the Ayala Museum in Makati City.
USM was honored as a Provincial Hub Higher Education Institution (HEI) Learning Hub on volunteerism. This award was given to institutions with strong commitment in helping communities by making volunteer work part of its academic programs, research, and extension services.

Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua, Director of the USM Extension Services Office, received the plaque together with Prof. Bonifacio Solsoloy.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Magbanua shared her gratitude to former USM President Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia, current USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, and the many volunteers and partner organizations within the university. She acknowledged their shared efforts in reaching out and providing support to USM’s partner communities.
“One of the only 5 HEIs recognized as Provincial Hubs for Volunteerism in the country, besting other HEIs from Regions 10, 11 and 12 to emerge as the best in Mindanao, there couldn’t have been a better Christmas gift than a national recognition,” Dr. Magbanua wrote in her post.
In his post, Prof. Solsoloy shared how the success was made possible through the combined efforts of dedicated individuals and active student organizations.
On December 23, 2025, Dr. Magbanua and Prof. Solsoloy stood before President Pimentel to present him with a national award. They thanked him for always supporting their efforts to help the community.

Donald James D. Gawe, the PNVSCA Executive Director signed the Plaque of Recognition.
