USM Benchmarks at TUP, MC-HSSIC for Innovation

In pursuit of making USM as an innovation and entrepreneurial University, the University of Southern Mindanao led by President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel conducted a benchmarking activity at the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)-Taguig and Miriam College-Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center (MC-HSSIC) on November 5, 2025.

During the visit, engagements were focused on fortifying the growing innovation landscape of USM, with particular emphasis on boosting the operational capacity of the Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (IPTTBDO) and the USMart Technology Business Incubator (USMart TBI).

TUP-Taguig provided exposure to USM team over valuable practices in Robotics and Mechatronics Laboratories, Technology Development, and prototyping. Also, during their visit to the MC-HSSIC, the team toured various facilities and gained insights into the center’s approaches to innovation and collaboration, with particular attention to its community-driven initiatives that promotes inclusive and locally grounded technological advancement.

The enhancements learned are integral to better support researchers, faculty innovators, and startup incubatees as part of reinforcing USM’s commitment to generating transformative impact through technology-driven initiatives and forward-thinking innovation.

Composing the USM team were Director of IPTTBDO and Project Leader of USMart TBI, Dr. Jalaloden B. Marohom, IP Specialist, Engr. Marc Macbeth Toledo, Dean of CEIT Dr. Maricel G. Dayaday, and representatives from the IPTTBDO and USMart TBI.
