
USM Physics Student Earns Best Oral Presenter Award at International Conference

Students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of the University of Southern Mindanao participated in the Peace Caravan Forum and Book Launching of the Philippine Society for Peace and Development (PSDP) with the theme “Together as One in Teaching Peace Education” on October 24, 2025, at the Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center (KEPLRC), Library Lobby, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
The event featured a book launching led by Fr. Noel Ponsaran, PhD, and discussions on peace and development from various speakers, including Dr. Amelita P. Estimo, CAR, PhD in Development Management; Mr. Belly S. Berana Jr.; and Mr. Mishael Argonza, Vice President of the PSDP.
Organized by the Department of Social Science and Philosophy under CASS, the forum aimed to promote peace education among USM students. During the open forum, CASS students, particularly those from AB Philosophy, and NSTP students engaged the speakers with questions on peace, activism, and the role of education in nation-building.



Fr. Ponsaran emphasized that peace begins in the heart and that understanding oneself is essential to achieving harmony in society. He also discussed the importance of critical engagement and awareness among the youth in promoting peace and development.
Mr. Argonza, meanwhile, encouraged students to become active advocates of peace, highlighting that positive participation and responsible citizenship are vital in achieving genuine progress.
The activity concluded with a message of unity and the call for continuous education on peace to build a more just and harmonious society.
