The University of Southern Mindanao PALMA Extension Classes, headed by its OIC Director Dr. Gideon Sumayo, celebrated its 6th Founding Anniversary called PASIGARBO 2025 with Board Member of the Cotabato First District Hon. Sittie Antao-Balisi as the guest of honor and speaker on August 29, 2025.
In her speech, the Board Member shared the challenges she faced before entering politics. She revealed that she didn’t finish college on time, but thanks to the unwavering support of her family and her determination to keep moving forward, she eventually earned her degree. Today, she lives her passion for leadership and public service.
“USM PALMA started with only two programs in 2019, now I am delighted to know that we already have five programs offered here in Libungan. As your board member, you have my full support. Let us continue to invest in education.” The board member ended.
In his message of support, USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, through Prof. Leonard Paleta, the Director of the Department of Instruction, expressed his congratulations to the USM PALMA Family.
“We are proud of your accomplishments over the last 6 years, especially the impressive passing of your licensure examinations.” He said.
Hon. Jims Fullecedo, the Vice Mayor of Libungan, recalled the humble beginnings of USM PALMA and expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to its development. He also assured that the local government will continue to support the institution, particularly in areas such as transportation, infrastructure, and other essential facilities.
Meanwhile, the Montay, Libungan Barangay Captain of Rey Aspacio, graced the activity. In his message, the Barangay Captain expressed that the barangay council will continue to support the campus, as USM PALMA is a source of pride for their community, being established in their area. He also reminded the students to study diligently as a way of honoring their parents’ sacrifices.
USM Administrative Council Members attended the activity to wit Dr. Ma. Leslie Sales, the Dean of the College of Education (CED), Dr. Urduja C. Nacar of the College of Human Ecology and Food Sciences (CHEFS), Dr. Leonard Paleta, the Director of the Department of Instruction, and Jennifer E. Sinco, the Secretary of the USM and the USM Board of Regents.
Various activities were conducted during the USM PALMA’s three-day activity such as Thanksgiving Mass, Color Run, Mr. and Ms. USM PALMA, Booth Design Contest, Quiz Bowl, and Larong Pinoy.
