The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) joined the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Provincial Training Center (TESDA-PTC) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pigcawayan on July 30, 2025, in Poblacion III, Pigcawayan, Cotabato.
The signing of the MOA formally permitted the LGU for the temporary sharing and utilization of the TESDA-PTC facilities to support the establishment and operation of USM.
In his speech, Hon. Juanito C. Agustin, Municipal Mayor of Pigcawayan, spoke of his gratitude to USM for being a strong partner in delivering quality and relevant education to communities.
“You bring us closer to providing our students here the quality but affordable education that only USM can give. You bring us closer to our dream of having USM Pigcawayan in our municipality.” He underscored.
Following the speech, Gerry G. Tizon, JD, Regional Director of TESDA XII, expressed his unwavering support to uplifting the youth through education as a form of fulfilling one of TESDA’s primary goals.
“TESDA’s mission has always been to transform and uplift lives through technical vocational training. This is our tradition to help meet the increasing demand for the accessible skills training for our youth.” Director Tizon remarked.
In response, Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, USM President extended his commitment through Dr. Leorence Tandog, USM Vice President for Academic Affairs who attended the event on his behalf.
“Rest assured, we are committed, and we fully support this collaboration as we build a partnership and exemplifies academic excellence to societal relevance,” she remarked.
In a bold move to serve the wider community of Cotabato Province, USM continues to thrive forging partnerships to LGUs and stakeholders to expand its services in the province.
Also, Dr. Edwin L. Cruzado, 1st district of Cotabato representative represented by Engr. Norodin K. Usman, Relly A. Leysa, MPA Provincial Director of TESDA XII, members of the Sangguniang bayan of Pigcawayan, LGU Pigcawayan administrators, dignitaries from the Department of Education, and representatives from USM witnessed the event.
