The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) officially welcomed 3,605 freshmen undergraduate students and 148 Grade VII students from the University Laboratory School (ULS) during the University Academic Convocation Program held on August 4, 2025, at the University Auditorium, Kabacan, Cotabato.
In his message, USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel reminded students that education is more than just earning a degree. He encouraged them to embrace growth, discovery, innovation, and transformation throughout their stay at the university. He also assured students that they are not alone in their journey, as every university office is ready to support their needs. Dr. Pimentel also expressed his gratitude to all USM employees for their continued service and support to students.
University officials, including the vice presidents and college deans, introduced their offices and academic units during the activity. A ceremonial distribution of school supplies and food packs was also conducted for students with special needs.

Earlier this week, USM, through the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), conducted a Student Week for freshmen and transferees from July 29 to August 1. The week featured a series of activities, including orientations on student affairs and services, campus tours, college-level briefings, organization fairs, an NSTP orientation, and a university awareness campaign. These activities were designed to help new students adjust to campus life and understand the academic environment.
The University Academic Convocation Program signals the official start of Academic Year 2025–2026 and reaffirms USM’s commitment to accessible, inclusive, and student-centered education.
