Kabacan, Cotabato – The University of Southern Mindanao Extension Services Office (USM-ESO) successfully aired Episode IV of Ugnayan Natin Season VI on July 3, 2025, through DXVL KOOL FM 94.9 and streamed live via the DXVL News and Public Affairs Facebook page.

The one-hour, forum-style radio program featured Marie Kristine R. Roldan, RN, MD, MMHA, FPCP, FPSN, a faculty member of the College of Medicine, as the resource speaker. Dr. Roldan provided an in-depth discussion on kidney stones—a health concern affecting a growing number of Filipinos.

She began by defining kidney stones and explaining how they form, delving into the chemistry behind their development. According to Dr. Roldan, individuals with comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity are at a higher risk of developing kidney stones. She also presented the latest epidemiological data, highlighting the increasing prevalence of kidney stones in the Philippines.

Dr. Roldan further shared how diet and lifestyle contribute to the formation of various types of kidney stones, explaining that certain foods and poor hydration habits can significantly increase risk. She emphasized the importance of identifying symptoms correctly and debunked common misconceptions—clarifying that not all abdominal pain is a sign of kidney stones.

The discussion also covered the types of kidney stones, their specific causes, and the risk factors associated with their formation. She detailed the symptoms to watch out for, diagnostic methods such as imaging and urine/blood tests, and the available treatment options. For prevention, she strongly advised listeners to maintain a balanced diet and drink at least 2.5 liters of water daily.

“Moderation is the key. Too much of anything is dangerous. Pipiliin natin ang kakainin natin. Ang importante sa diet ay ang amount and frequency,” Dr. Roldan reminded the audience.

Throughout the episode, Dr. Roldan also responded to real-time questions from Facebook Live viewers, further engaging the public in an informative and interactive discussion.

Ugnayan Natin airs live every Thursday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Past episodes are available for replay via Facebook Live and the USM RTV Channel on YouTube.
