Kabacan, Cotabato — The University of Southern Mindanao Extension Services Office (USM-ESO), College of Agriculture (CA), and College of Business, Development, Economics and Management (CBDEM) hosted an exploratory meeting with Islamic Relief Philippines to discuss potential partnership in improving livelihoods and climate resilience in Ligawasan Marsh, on June 17, 2025, at the ESO Conference Room.

Islamic Relief Philippines is a humanitarian organization providing emergency aid and sustainable development programs focused on livelihoods, education, women’s empowerment, and climate resilience.

Ritchel O. Torres, ESO Training Specialist II, Dr. Analyn A. Gonzales, CBDEM College Extension Coordinator (CEC), and faculty members from CA and CBDEM welcomed Ms. Zaynab A. Ampatuan, Senior Project Officer of Islamic Relief Philippines.

The meeting centered on possible collaboration for the Ligawasan Marsh Communities in Mindanao (L-MARSH) Project, funded by Islamic Relief Canada. The project aims to equip residents of Sultan Sa Barongis and General Salipada K. Pendatun with skills in enterprise management, farming, fishing, financial literacy, and strategic planning.

USM expressed support for the initiative through advocacy, technical assistance, and provision of expert resource speakers for capacity-building activities. The partnership seeks to strengthen community resilience and promote inclusive development in vulnerable marshland areas.
