The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Repair and Upgrading of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Building on June 13, 2025.

The facility is expected to provide a more conducive space for lectures, civic training, and community-based activities under the NSTP program.

With a contract cost of PHP 24,822,988.06, the project is being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region XII, funded through the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2024. The building is anticipated to be completed within 250 calendar days, under the construction of Sarex Builders and Supply.

Congressman Edwin L. Cruzado, 1st District Representative of Cotabato Province graced the activity representing Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza.

Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, the USM President, along with his Vice Presidents, Engr. Willie Jones Saliling, Faculty Association President , Prof. Bonifacio Solsoloy, NSTP Director, NSTP coordinators, and project stakeholders were present during the program.

In his message, Dr. Pimentel expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the realization of the project and acknowledged the previous university administration for laying the groundwork that made it possible.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, Congressman Cruzado visited the USM College of Medicine, where he was welcomed by college officials and faculty members. The visit served as a platform to discuss ongoing needs and explore opportunities for support, particularly in enhancing medical facilities and providing adequate resources for students.

Congressman Cruzado reaffirmed his commitment to support both the NSTP and the College of Medicine as he recognize its roles in shaping civic-minded leaders and future healthcare professionals in the region.
