Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala, Executive Director III of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) along with Glenn C. Corpus, Project Technical Assistant III conducted a visit to USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel on May 27, 2025, at the Office of the President, USM Administration Building, Kabacan, Cotabato.

With sufficient resources of potential land and technology for agricultural research and topnotch experts in USM, the visit aimed at exploring the possibility of establishing a PRRI satellite office inside USM to enrich rubber technologies and discuss further collaboration in rubber research.

Moreover, Director Eusala highlighted the declining performance of the rubber industry in the Philippines and how this is a great challenge for PRRI to alleviate the status.

“Ang rubber industry talaga [according] sa mga partners natin sa private even sa farmers, pwede nilang sabihin na nasa sunset industry. So now it is a challenge for us to make it from sunset to sunrise.” She spoke.

On PRRI’s end, Director Eusala is enthusiastic in lifting the rubber industry by crafting effective programs, promoting improved technology, and research to develop and upgrade ways of rubber farming that are adaptive and sustainable.

USM, as a dynamic and relevant academic institution in the Region, USM President Pimentel gave his assurance to probe on feasible actions with the help of Planning and Development Office (PDO) of USM to support PRRI’s endeavors.
