The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) through the Counseling and Career Department (CCD) of the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) held its Group Growth Program (GGP) Culmination 2025 with 3,208 completers and 23 Outgoing Student Peer Facilitators Organization (SPFO) members on May 02, 2025 at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

GGP, considered as one of the best practices of the university, is a year-long program intended to support the first year students and transferees in their university life. It is facilitated by the trained SPFO officers and members.

“I hope that all you have learned in GGP light up your path as you still have more years in the university. I hope that GGP empowered you to make a difference wherever you go.” Maria Angelika T. Balungay, the CCD head said in her opening remarks.

Mr. Loynei F. Sumalinog, the Information Officer III of USM, served as the resource speaker in the culmination.  In his message, he shared significant experiences from his journey as a student until he secured employment in government service.

“For me, life is marked by inevitable struggles, followed by breakthroughs, with valuable lessons to be learned throughout the journey.” He remarked.

Kien L. Hayag, a Psychology student and the former SPFO President, delivered an emotional testimony, recalling the organization’s impactful volunteer activities and the lessons of unity, commitment, and service.

“Sa mga taunang programs na ginagawa ng organization such as hospital visitation, jail visitation, at mga outreach program, doon po [kami] mas na inspire at lumabas ang totoong essence ng volunteerism sa amin. Nang dahil dito, natutunan din namin ang kahulugan ng unity, cooperation, and commitment hindi lang para sa organization kundi para [rin] University at sa bawat estudyanteng sineserbisyuhan nito.” Hayag spoke.

GGP graduates shared their testimonies during the program. James O. Careño, a first year BS in Tourism Management student, expressed that his personal growth and connections was developed throughout the program.

“GGP provided a unique and meaningful space for self-discovery, interpersonal development and genuine human connection. The program taught me a value of trust, cooperation. and respect within the group.  Most Importantly the GGP class reminded us that growth does not happen in isolation, it happens in connection with people who are willing to share, to listen and to support in each other”

Dr. Ma. Leida M. Donque, the OSA Director, along with College-based Guidance Coordinators, SPFO officers and members were present in the activity.  The completers received certificates from CCD facilitated by Imelda D. Silao, RGC, the SPFO Adviser.
