The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XII provided educational assistance to 1000 students from the University of Southern Mindanao.

Regional Director Loreto Cabaya Jr., along with the DSWD staff, facilitated the distribution of the educational assistance today, December 14, 2023, at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.  He emphasized the power of students’ determination to pursue education despite life’s challenges, highlighting that educational assistance serves as a crucial support for their studies.

Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza of the Province of Cotabato underscored the significance of tertiary education. She acknowledged the tremendous privilege students have today, citing various educational assistance programs and the availability of free education.

Also, President Francisco Gil N. Garcia encouraged students to have confidence in their academic pursuits, noting the abundance of scholarships available. He affirmed the intelligence of USM students, evident from their success in passing the University entrance examination.

Justin Reny Gravidez, a student-recipient enrolled in the BS Development Communication program, expressed heartfelt gratitude to those behind the educational assistance. He mentioned, “Sa gitna ng mga pagsubok na ating kinakaharap ngayon bilang mag aaral, ang tulong na ating matatanggap ay maituturing na instrumento na siyang mag uudyok sa pa sa atin upang mas lalo pa tayong magpursige sa ating pag aaral.”

Board Member Jonathan M. Tabara; Dr. Geoffray R. Atok, the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA); and Samsudin Panday, Ph.D., Vice President for Resource, Generation, and Entrepreneurial Services (VPRGES) were also present, inspiring students to believe in themselves and to reinforce their commitment to their studies.
