The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) conducted its Midyear Performance Review for 2025 on July 22 to 23, 2025 at the University Skyroom, Administration Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, the USM President, along with the four Vice Presidents, and Engr. Renel M. Alucilja, the Chairperson of the Performance Management Team (PMT) and the Planning and Development Office (PDO) Director, spearheaded the review.
With support from the PMT members and PMT secretariat, the midyear review aimed to assess the progress of each office, highlight significant accomplishments from the first half of the year, identify areas for improvement, and address the challenges and risks encountered.
The review included reports from various sectors of the university, to wit, Academic Units, Academic Support Units, Advanced Education, Research, Development and Extension (RDE), USM-Kidapawan City Campus (USM-KCC), M’lang and Antipas campuses, the Administration and Finance sector, the Office of the President and its affiliated offices, as well as the Resource Generation and Entrepreneurial Services (RGES).
During the closing program, Dr. Glyn G. Magbanua, the Head Secretariat of the PMT, turned over the outputs of midyear review to Dr. Pimentel. These outputs consist of the summary of the accomplishments of the different units in the university as well as the consolidated comments from the PMT that is intended to improve the accomplishments of the different units.
“These outputs likewise represent our collective efforts and dedication towards the achievement of our operational and strategic plans the very purpose why we have conducted this year’s performance management review,” Dr. Magbanua remarked.
According to Dr. Pimentel, the performance review was fruitful, especially with the new approach of having only one presenter per group.
“There is a visible reduction in stress among deans and directors…This is an opportunity for the staff to do the presentation, this is an avenue to empower them, this is one way we can discover the skills and talents of the personnel,”He underscored.
In his closing message, Engr. Alucilja expressed thanks to the unit heads, PMT members, and the planning officers.
“Today, we celebrate our accomplishments as we still move forward to achieve our strategic goals that is to produce globally competitive students, develop innovation, transform lives of beneficiaries, develop portfolio, and innovative administration,” the PDO Director spoke.
He expressed pride in the reports and noted that they were grounded in thorough understanding and evaluation, and were data-driven.
Notably, the Strategic Planning Workshop of USM took place in April 2025 at the Cavanico Il Mare Function Hall, Babak, IGACOS, Davao del Norte. The midyear review was also conducted to prepare for the year-end performance evaluation scheduled for December.
