The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) proudly recognizes its faculty members Prof. Benedict D. Entera, Prof. Hazel Ann S. Soriano, and Prof. Airene D. Rosete, for serving as resource persons and facilitators during the Region XII Nuclear CAMP (Capacitating and Mentoring Program) held on August 18–19, 2025 at Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City.

DOST-SEI Project STAR (Science Teachers Academy for the Regions) spearheaded the CAMP as an extension of the trainers’ training conducted last year at Estancia De Lorenzo, San Mateo, Rizal.

With the goal of strengthening nuclear science education, the program introduced fundamental concepts, showcased applications in health, industry, and agriculture, and revisited the curriculum to enhance classroom delivery of nuclear science lessons.

Prof. Entera shared his expertise on the Fundamentals of Nuclear Science and Technology as well as its applications in agriculture, environment, and industry. Prof. Rosete discussed the Biological Effects of Radiation and highlighted its uses in healthcare. Prof. Soriano delivered lectures on Radiation Safety and Risk Management and led discussions on the benefits and risks of nuclear power facilities which concluded with virtual tour of Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. Together, they also facilitated the critiquing of lesson plan outputs from the eight Schools Division of SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

The two-day event engaged junior and senior high school science teachers and their Science Education Program Supervisors, providing them with lectures, workshops, and experiments for an immersive learning experience.

USM supports its faculty members for their continued dedication in advancing science education and their vital contribution to the success of Project STAR’s mission of capacitating teachers across the regions.

The said USM personnel conducted a courtesy visit to the USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel on September 04, 2025 wherein they also turned over the Certificate of Appreciation from DOST-SEI to USM.
