On March 13, 1978, President Ferdinand E. Marcos signed the Presidential Decree No. 1312 converting Mindanao Institute of Technology (MIT) into the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) after 24 years of gradual but steady development.
This was initiated during the term of MIT-USM’s third President Jaman S. Imlan.
