ULRC now the Repository of the BAI MATABAY PLANG Memorabilia
The University Learning Resource Center is now the repository of the Memorabilia of the great founder of this University BAI HADJA FATIMA MATABAY PLANG. Originally, the location of this Memorabilia is at the Main Library and later transferred at the USM Museum under the supervision of Mr. Kaharudin P. Manamba, Senior Museum Researcher/Curator.
Today, the Memorabilia of the late founder is one of the hotspots for visitors, outside researchers, students, faculty and the rest of the library patrons. Enhanced by its unique and valuable collections from her wardrobes down to personal belongings like passports, write ups, diplomas, awards, plaques and other pertinent documents. The late founder serves as an inspiration for all most importantly the Library Staff since her favorite place then was the library and her line of specialization was Library Science at Philippine Normal College now PNU, Manila.

ULRC is leading towards VIRTUAL LIBRARY
The advancement of ICT and the availability of wealth of digital resources accessible through the internet, E-books and E-Journals have affected nearly every aspects of Library operations and activities. Today, ULRC is responding to the challenges brought about by the technological advancement and offers modern day approaches of information access and retrieval. The implementation of the rationalized increase of library Fee among students enables the library to move forward for its development in automation, thus it is said to be going Virtual Library. One major highlight is the acquisition and subscription of the E-journal ACADEMIC ONEFILE – An Online Full Text database which provides 250 titles of Foreign Journals with almost 20,000 updated articles in various academic disciplines. Powered by Gale Cengage learning based from US, this electronic journal is the largest collection of peer-reviewed online scientific journals seamlessly integrated with Thompson ISI’s Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports with Cited
References and direct links to Science Direct, Blackwell Synergy, Ingenta, Project MUSE. It also provides full-text access to content found in major indices such as AGRICOLA for Agriculture and Allied Subjects, Biological Abstracts (BISIS), CINAHL, ERIC, ECON Lit, Georef, Inspec, MEDLINE for Medical fields, MLA International Bibliography, PsycInfo for Psychology, RILM and Sport Discus. The ACADEMIC ONLINE – INFOTRAC 250 was launched last August 1, 2008 at the InfoTech Section of the ULRC by the CE Logic Company. Members of the University Library Committee, Faculty from various colleges USM-KCC as well, students and Library Staff were among those present during the launching. Is according to CE Logic, USM is the first State University in Mindanao to subscribe and access the E-Journal in full-text via online. For details, log on to http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/phusm. In addition, just this September 2009 the University Library is connected with wireless Internet connection, a WIFI Zone. Students, researchers, scientists, faculty members are encouraged to bring their laptop, notebook and note pad and have full access to digital resources via internet, online and database searching. Circulation Plus (automated borrowing and returning system on its 1st phase)
Barcoding of Filipiniana Books
Online Public Access Cataloguing (OPAC) System
Electronic User’s Log-in System. The system facilitates the control of the coming in of the library users. Installed at the entrance of the Main Library. This will generates statistical information as to library utilization per hour, day, week, month and even year-end data. Facilitated through the use of Automated Library Identification Card (ALIC).
On October 26-27, 2009 the team headed by Prof. Anita C. Sornito, Director of ULRC/Libraries participated in the PLAI SOCCSKSARGEN Internet Manifesto Trainors Workshop with the theme “Internet: The Way to the Future” to be held at Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, General Santos City.
