PVF Volleyball National Referee Acreditation Course
The Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) and the USM Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation sponsored the first National Volleyball Referee Accreditation in Cotabato Province. It was held at the USM gymnasium from November 24-28, 2010. The course had a series of lectures, discussions, film viewing, written, practical and oral examinations of the participants about the rules of volleyball game. The guest speakers were Mr. Pedro P. Mendoza, President of Philippine Volleyball Federation; Mr. Victor C. Abalos, Chairman of the PVF Referees Commission; Mr. Nestor L. Bello, Chairman of the Game Commission; Mr. Marvin H. Trinidad, International referee and the course instructor; and Prof. Elpedio Arias, International referee and the course instructor. Participants were from the different places of Mindanao and there were sixteen (16) participants who graduated as National Referee Candidate and there were only five (5) participants who graduated in this course as LEVEL ONE National Referee, in the person of Prof. Malony Matinez, Prof Priscilla Dagoc, Mr. Bernard A. Rendon , Ms. Marlene Orfrecio and Prof. Moreno Java. Prof. Malony Matinez was awarded as the best first (1st) referee, Mr. Bernard Rendon as the best second (2nd) referee, Ms. Katherine Roxanne Revilla as the best scorer, Mr. Mico Ray Taglucop awarded as best in written examination, and Prof. Priscilla Dagoc, Ms. Marlene Orfrecio and Mr. Cristitito Ornopia as best line judges. The event was done successfully with the support of Dr. Jesus Antonio Derije, USM President; Dr. Josephine Migalbin, Director of HRDT; Dr. Noami Tangonan, Vice President for Research and Extension; Prof. Flora Garcia, Director of ISPEAR and whole family of ISPEAR and USCAO.

Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines – “The State shall promote Physical Education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports including training for international competition to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry; AND ALL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS shall undertake regular sports activities throughout the country and in cooperation with athletic club and other sectors”. To take part actively, Unilympics 2010 is being scheduled annually. For this School year 2010-20111, it will be held on September 14-17, 2010 with ten participating colleges at the University of Southern Mindanao Sports Complex with a theme of “Facing Global Challenges Thru Sports”. The Grand Opening is on September 14, 2010 3:00 p.m. at USM field.
