project on biotechnology
There
has been a lot of controversies on biotechnology
which created some confusion over what this
science is and whether or not there is cause
for concern. Despite declaration made by
President Gloria Macapagal Aroyo (Malacafiang
Memorandum dated 16 July 2001) and the issuance
of Administrative Order No. 8 of the Department
of Ag¬riculture (DA), still there are
a lot of oppositions on biotechnology by
some sectors. The issues of safety, social
and economic benefit and con¬trol/access
to technology have dominated on-going debates.
The more dramatic and overblown issue against
biotech has focused on Bt corn.

Seminar
on Understanding Agricultural Biotechnology
The
SEARCA Biotechnology Information Center
(SEARCA – BIC) jointly sponsored with
the Department of Agriculture Region 12
(DA – 12), Biotechnology Coalition
of the Philippines (BCP) and the Office
of the Provincial Agriculturist of Sultan
Kudarat and South Cotabato a one-day seminar
on Understanding Agricultural Biotechnology
last June 23 and 24, 2005, respectively.
